Some test results can take longer than others to come back to us. For example, most blood test results will be back within 24-48 hours whereas urine sample results could take up to 5 days, and stool sample results could take up to 10 days. X-rays, CT, MRI, or Ultrasound scans can all vary depending on demand and where you are having the scan. Biopsy results can take around 10-14 days to be returned. FIT (Faecal Immunochemical Test) results can take 7 working days to be returned to the GP after you have sent the pack off in the post.
If you attend the surgery for a blood test, your results will usually be returned to us within 24-48 hours. Once received, the GPs need to review and comment on each test result.

Getting your test results
If your test results show that you need more tests or treatment, we will contact you.
Once a doctor has reviewed your test results, you can view them:
- in your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App)
- in your Patient Access account
If you cannot go online, you can check your test results by telephoning reception after 10am, to avoid the busier phone lines at the start of each day, or during the afternoon. This also keeps the phone lines free for those requiring appointments.
Questions about your results
If you need to follow-up with one of our GPs about your results, please contact the surgery to arrange a suitable appointment.
